About H&J Tool and Die Co.

Our overall expertise lies in the designing and building of metal stamping dies, as well as medium to high volume precision stamping. For the past ten years, we have developed a reputation in the High Energy Physics Community as a source for ultra-precision Accelerator Magnet Laminations. H&J was the prime contractor for the Isabelle-CBA project at Brookhaven National Laboratory in 1982. We began our SSC work immediately after in 1983. To date, we have produced all the Welded Collar Pairs and Yoke Laminations for all 17 meter, as well as 1.8 meter SSC Magnets. The specialized techniques required to stamp High-Strength Nitronic 40 Stainless Steel, used in the SSC Collar, were developed at H&J. This material had never been stamped in this application. The challenge of the SSC Coil Curing Press Laminations was also met by H&J. These parts require the dual constraint of extremely high tolerance, and very high repeatability.
